Benzalkonium Chloride is a cationic surfactant that is neutral to weakly basic (pH 4.8-7.01). It kills microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria, and viruses by damaging their outer and inner cell layers. Benzalkonium Chloride is commonly used as a preservative in cosmetics and medicines, including eye drops, sprays, ear gels, hand sanitizers, wet wipes, shampoos, soaps, and deodorants. It is also utilized as an antiseptic in sore throat lozenges, mouthwashes, skin and wound disinfectants.
